As was shared during our AGM on January 26th, while 2021 was a year of progress in addressing the need for affordable housing, there is still much work yet to do. We are excited about moving forward with our new project at Sprucelawn in St. Jacobs that will provide an additional 28 senior’s apartments. You can expect to see more details about the capital campaign in the near future.

The news of our rebranding was also a significant announcement. This will be implemented over the coming months. This is a significant step for us as we respond to the need for affordable housing in Waterloo Region. We are excited about our future. We remain committed to maintaining the values and focus on affordable housing that MennoHomes has nurtured for these past 20 years, and we invite you to also continue with us as a partner in this vital work.

You may recall that the AGM was recorded. It has now been posted online and can be viewed here.

In 2015 as MennoHomes was in the planning stages of The Foundry in Elmira, we shared the story of Gordon. This video provides a glimpse into his everyday struggles due to mobility issues. He and his son share his challenges due to the lack of suitable affordable housing in his community, and their hopes for the future.

It took just over a year to complete construction of The Foundry in Elmira. During that time, our 2016 AGM also included a fundraising concert featuring local bluegrass band Rescue Junction. You can watch the construction with Rescue Junction playing in the background here:

In 2011, MennoHomes celebrated its 10th anniversary. At the time we were in the midst of construction of a new semi-detached family home in Elmira, in partnership with students at Elmira District Secondary School. This video includes Margaret Nally (board Chair) reflecting on the importance of affordable housing as well as tenants sharing their thoughts on the extra support provided by our MennoHomes Community Support Worker, Karen Lebold.
