OUT-SPOK’N VII

Raising funds for affordable barrier-free housing in Elmira.

What is it?

It's time for our 7th bike-a-thon raising funds for affordable barrier-free housing in Waterloo Region. All donations from this year's event will go towards our new project in Elmira. Construction is nearing completion and your support is important to help make this project a success.

Why?

Everyone needs a safe, affordable place to call home. In Elmira, access to barrier-free housing is very limited. Funds raised at this year's event will go directly towards the construction of new housing for people in our local community who desperately need it. People like Gordon. Watch the video below to learn how your support will change his life.

What happens at the bike-a-thon?

Registration starts at 9:00. (if you register online, this process is much quicker!) At 9:30 we will gather for a short greeting along with some words of instruction. Everyone then proceeds to the Kissing Bridge Trail and either head towards West Montrose or Wallenstein. (approx 16 km round-trip either way)

You can travel alone, with your friends, or with someone you've just met. It's not a race! Some participants complete the full 32 km loop while others just go part way. A stop for ice cream in West Montrose is a highlight for many.

We ask that you pace yourself so that everyone is back at the church for a BBQ lunch at noon. After the lunch and door prizes, you will still have plenty of time to enjoy the rest of your day.

What about the other events?

Participants in the 75km ride have to get up a little earlier. A group leaves from St. Jacobs at 7:00, stops at a location in Elmira at 7:30 so that additional riders can join them, bikes to the Shand Dam, enjoys a mid-bike breakfast and returns to Elmira for lunch.

If you are interested in the motorcycle tour, please arrive before the noon lunch so that you can register and also enjoy the BBQ. The afternoon ride is typically about 3 hours long, through scenic parts of Southwestern Ontario.

How does this support affordable housing?

There is no charge for the event. Participants are asked to raise donations through sponsorship. All donations are tax receiptable. Corporate sponsors cover the expenses for the event so all donations will go directly towards the construction of new affordable housing in Elmira.

Do I have to register in advance?

Registering in advance allows us to plan for the meal but we certainly welcome people who register in-person on the Saturday morning of the event.

If you register online, you can personalize an online fundraising page to promote the ride and raise support. This also makes it easier for people sponsoring you to make a donation via credit card.

What do I do now?

Mark your calendar, register online, and then invite others to join you or sponsor you. You can download a copy of the poster HEREa copy of the pledge sponsorship form HEREand a copy of the route map HERE.

Everyone is welcome to participate. You can attend on your own, with a group of friends, or even as a team.
