Annual General Meeting
The MennoHomes Annual General Meeting for the fiscal year ending August 31, 2018 will be held on January 30, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room at 50 Kent Ave. Kitchener Ontario.
In addition to the business meeting, members will be asked to confirm an updated by-law that was approved by the MennoHomes board of directors on January 15, 2019. A copy of the by-law can be previewed here: By-Law. We will also be providing an update on our next affordable housing project in Waterloo Region.
Light refreshments will follow the meeting in the Hospitality Room.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
If you are a member of MennoHomes but are unable to attend, you can still participate by proxy. Download the Proxy Form and either send the completed form with a member to the meeting, or email to our office. Proxy Form
Summary of By-Law Changes
The new by-law does not differ substantially from the existing by-law. The new by-law is easier to read as there are no longer a series of amendments added at the end of the by-law which made it hard to follow.
The new by-law:
- makes clear that directors are not permitted to receive any remuneration for their services as director or for providing services in any other capacity.
- does not restrict the term of membership but rather states that to cease being a member, a member needs to resign in writing or by verbally notifying a director.
- sets the quorum at meetings of members to seven (7) or more members from 51% of members. While MennoHomes will continue to encourage membership and attendance of members at members’ meetings, reducing the number of members required for quorum will ensure that low attendance will not prevent a meeting from proceeding.
